Arctic Highways blev en succé i Minneapolis. Nu vandrar utställningen vidare till Santa Fe där den öppnar 16 augusti 2024.

Den 26 maj 2024 avslutades utställningsperioden för konstutställningen Arctic Highways hos The American Swedish Institute i Minneapolis där den visats sedan 4:e februari 2024.

Som du kan läsa i tidigare inlägg blev utställningen en succé både när det gäller publiksiffror och mediauppmärksamhet. Dessutom inspirerade utställningen till att nya utställningar och verksamheter startades på temat ursprungsbefolkningar.

Så här skriver American Swedish Institute (ASI) dagen efter att utställningen stängts

“The touring Arctic Highways exhibition concludes its remarkable run at the American Swedish Institute (ASI) in Minneapolis, Minnesota this weekend. Marked by cultural enrichment and dynamic partnerships, ASI hosted Arctic Highways and showcased the works of Indigenous contemporary artists from Sápmi and North America from February 3 to May 26, 2024.

Alongside this central exhibition, visitors experienced Mygration, a compelling installation by Sámi artist Tomas Colbengtson and Swedish artist Stina Folkebrant, presented in collaboration with All My Relations Arts, a local hub and gallery for contemporary Native art.

The exhibition’s programming at featured notable events, starting with the screening of “Stitches for Sápmi” on Sámi National Day on February 6. This documentary highlighted the life and art of Arctic Highways curator and artist Britta Marakatt-Labba, whose work encapsulates the mythology, natural connections, and political struggles of the Sámi people.

Further programming included the U.S. debut of Avant Joik, featuring Arctic Highways artist Matti Aiko, in association with the Walker Art Center, and a special concert performance by the Sámi National Theater Beaivváš at ASI. These events not only showcased the unique artistry and cultural heritage of Indigenous peoples but also fostered connections and conversations that extend beyond the museum walls.”

Nu vandrar utställningen vidare till Santa Fe i New Mexico där den öppnar den 16:e augusti 2024 hos IAIA Museum of Contemporary Native Arts (MoCNA). Utställningen kommer att visas i Santa Fe fram till den 5:e januari 2025. Mer information kommer inom kort.
